When meditating, focus on your breath. Make yourself comfortable and breath normally. It’ll be hard to determine when to breath, try not to think about it too much, just breath when your body needs to, no more no less.
Count your breaths. It’s going to feel really slow. One…. Inhale. Exhale. Two. Inhale. Exhale. Etc.
Do that as long as you can stand it, and count as high as you can. If you lose your place, just start counting again at one. Be honest with yourself, and don’t be hard on yourself. It’s really hard when beginning. Do this a couple times a day, try to see if you can go longer than a few minutes.
When you work up to more than a few minutes, set a timer for 15 minutes. Do that maybe once or twice a day and keep going. After a week go up to 30 minutes. Then you’re ready for a different technique.
