Halting State

Halting State

This book, a present from Santa Claus this year, was my reading material on the plane ride out to Portland. The story is that of a bank heist that takes place in a virtual world, similar to World of Warcraft, and Halting State is told from a series of points of view, all your own.  For example, "You are sitting, half asleep, in an armchair, Your eyes are closed, and you feel very unsteady. Your head's full of a post-viral haze, the cotton-wool of slowed reflexes and dulled awareness."

It seems like it might be awkward, and it is. Until you remember that you've read so many Choose Your Own Adventure books that you can't count them.  Then you adapt quickly and get on with reading the story, which is quite good.

Please do forgive the cruddy nature of the photo.  I'm traveling here, so I've just got to make due with what I have on hand.
